Couples Therapy and Marriage Counseling in Durango, Colorado
For couples tired of having the same fight.
[Book a free 20-minute consultation]
You've talked it through. You've read the books. Maybe you've tried couples therapy before. And you still end up in the same fight.
The fight usually isn't about the dishes or the money. It's about what happens in the few seconds before anyone speaks: who shuts down, who gets louder, who leaves the room. That's where I work.
A different approach
Most couples therapy stays in conversation: who said what, who meant what. That can help you understand the problem without changing it.
My approach is somatic, which means we pay attention to what happens in you, not just what you say. When a conversation turns, we slow it down. You'll learn to notice your reaction as it starts, catch it, and respond differently. Your partner learns the same. Over time, the fight loses its script.
It's practical and direct. We work with what shows up in the room, not just the story about last week.
Whom I work with
-
Couples stuck in the same argument on repeat.
-
Partners who feel more like roommates
-
Couples rebuilding trust after a breach.
-
Couples facing a big change: a move, a baby, a career shift, an empty house
-
Couples who want to strengthen a good relationship before it gets hard
Married, unmarried, dating, LGBTQ+, and nontraditional relationships are all welcome here.
If your partner isn't sure
That's normal. Most couples don't arrive equally ready. Your partner doesn't have to be convinced; they have to be willing to show up once. The free consultation is a low-pressure way for both of you to see if this fits, with no commitment beyond it. Feel free to send them this page.
What to expect
The first session is about understanding how you two work: what brings you in, what each of you wants, and where things get stuck. From there, we set goals together. Some couples come for a few months; others longer. You'll have a say in the pace.

Common questions
Will you take sides?
No. My job is to help you both see the pattern you're caught in, not to decide who's right.
Can we do this over telehealth?
Yes, as long as you're both located in Colorado during sessions. Many couples find it easier to fit into busy schedules.
Is couples therapy right for every situation?
Not always. If there's physical violence, threats, or fear in the relationship, couples therapy can make things less safe. In those cases, I'll talk with you about individual support instead.
About me
I'm Colin Ferring, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I earned my master's degree from Prescott College and studied somatic psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, with graduate work in marriage and family therapy at both schools. Training in Nonviolent Communication and Conscious Leadership shapes how I help couples say hard things without it turning into a fight.
I believe a strong relationship is something you draw from, not something you have to manage. It's built on honesty and trust, and when those break down, both people feel it in every part of their lives.
